Ear Penalty - Vertical Crimp
Penalty Vertical Crimp: Below are videos of several different cats with vertical crimps. Notice that the ear base is not necessarily narrow if the "cup" (rounded base of the ear) were more open.
It is good to be critical in your breeding programs not to breed cats with severe vertical or horizontal crimps as this trait could well appear in continued breeding in kittens. Certainly not breeding two cats who both have any kind of crimped ears.
A vertical crimp is the result of a narrow ear base. Beginning at the base of the ear and continuing along some or all of it's height, the outer edge of the ear bends or rolls vertically in toward the center of the ear giving the outer edge of the ear a pinched or crimped aspect.
To the left you will see a photo example of vertical crimp.
The photo to the right shows us an example of horizontal crimp.
Vertical and horizontal crimps will always be more distinct in the Short Hair Curl than the Long Hair Curl. The crimp, whether vertical or horizontal crimps will have a corrugated or "bumpy" feel to the touch.
